- Independent Study is intended to be field, laboratory, or library research experience and should not be used as a substitute for courses available to turfgrass and soil science, horticulture, or landscape architect majors.
- An approval form, including the following, will be required for course approval by the department head:
a. Preliminary statement of objectives.
b. Credits and time inputs expected. Credits will be assigned on a laboratory basis. Therefore, a minimum of 42 hours of unsupervised work will be required for each credit. If work is supervised, a minimum of 42 28 hours of work will be required for each credit.
c. Nature of final reports.
d. Student, instructor, and advisor signatures.
- The approval form will need to be submitted to the department head with the Independent Study Authorization form required by the Office of the Registrar.
- Students are required to submit a detailed outline for the proposed study to the instructor and advisor before the end of the Add/Drop period of the semester in which the study is to be conducted.
- Plant Science majors are required to submit a final written report to the instructor and the department head. The report will be available for departmental review. In addition, an oral report is required. Oral reports will be due before the last day of classes of the semester in which the study was conducted. A departmental announcement of the oral report is required one week before the oral report is given.
