Assistant Professor

The University of Connecticut invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences. This is a nine-month, tenure track, research and teaching position. We are seeking an individual whose research focuses on the health-promoting properties and mechanisms of action of bioactive components of food in relation to prevention and treatment of chronic disease. Responsibilities include but are not limited to a) developing a strong research program supported by extramural funding b) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses c) and advising/mentoring undergraduate, masters and doctoral students.

A Ph.D. in nutrition, food science or related discipline; postdoctoral experience; commitment to the Department’s mission, and effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are required. The University of Connecticut Department of Nutritional Sciences seeks a Lecturer. The position is a non-tenure track, 11-month appointment, renewable annually depending on satisfactory performance and funding availability. The Department of Nutritional Sciences is one of seven academic units within the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and offers instructional programs leading to B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Nutritional Sciences. At the undergraduate level, the Department offers options in Nutrition and Dietetics.

The candidate of choice will direct the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), accredited by the American Dietetic Association (ADA), teach Nutritional Sciences undergraduate courses, and advise students. Responsibilities include, but limited to direction of DPD and dietetic internship placement, teaching of undergraduate courses, student advising, recruitment and retention, management and supervision of teaching laboratory. Minimum requirements include an M.S. degree in nutritional sciences or a related field, the R.D. credential, an active ADA membership, experience in teaching Food Services Systems Management and other Nutritional Sciences courses, effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, and commitment to the Department’s mission. A Ph.D. in Nutrition or related field is preferred.
