Assistant Professor of Nutritional Sciences

Position: The University of Connecticut Department of Nutritional Sciences invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time (9-month appointment, 50% research and 50% teaching) tenure track position as Assistant Professor.  The anticipated start date is August 23, 2014.

Responsibilities: Establish an independent, funded research program in areas of molecular nutrition, with focus on diet-induced changes in immune or inflammatory responses, and mechanisms whereby food components and nutrients modulate these responses in cells, animal models, or humans; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise/mentor undergraduate and graduate students; provide professional and public service.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in nutrition or related discipline; productive research as evidenced by publications and strong potential to secure extramural funding; commitment to the Department’s vision and mission; effective teaching skills; effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; postdoctoral experience or equivalent.   

Preferred qualifications: Expertise in cell biology and immunology in relationship to inflammation, obesity and related chronic diseases; research emphasis on nutrients or bioactive food components and their molecular mechanisms of action; extramural support for his/her research program; ability to synergize with faculty of the Department of Nutritional Sciences and facilitate interdisciplinary interactions with other University investigators; ability to advise undergraduate and graduate students.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Nutritional Sciences

Position: The Departments of Nutritional Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Connecticut, invite qualified candidates to apply for a full-time (9-month appointment, 50% research and 50% teaching) tenure track position as Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of biodelivery systems.  The anticipated start date is August 23, 2014.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong extramurally funded research program and facilitate faculty interdisciplinary interactions with other University programs in areas of biodelivery technology and applications such as nanoemulsions and biopolymer micelles to investigate the bioavailability, biological efficacies and/or toxicology of bioactive compounds and pharmaceuticals. The candidate is also expected to attract industry partners for collaborative research at the UConn Technology Park. The position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; advising/mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in addition to providing professional and public service.

Minimum qualifications: PhD in any of the following areas: Nutrition, Food or Pharmaceutical Sciences; productive research as evidenced by publications and extramural support for his/her research program with research emphasis on biodelivery systems application;  effective teaching skills; effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. To be considered at the rank of Associate Professor, the candidate must be eligible for promotion to the rank with established viable research programs and teaching experience.

Preferred qualifications: Research focused on enhancing bioavailability and bioefficacy of  food-derived bioactive compounds and pharmaceuticals, their molecular mechanisms of action, and health and toxicological implications of biodelivery systems, in relation to the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases; ability to synergize with nutritional and pharmaceutical sciences faculty; ability to advise undergraduate and graduate students; postdoctoral experience.
