Purpose
Members of the Forestry and Wildlife Club include students from a number of different majors who share an interest in the outdoors and natural resources. Activities include hiking, beekeeping, sweet apple cider-making, kayaking, trail maintenance, wood duck box maintenance, and care of the uconn forest.  The club also participates in UConn Forest projects including trail maintenance, tree plantings, wildlife habitat enhancement and maple syrup production from our own sugar bush at our own sugarhouse. Several meetings a year feature natural resource professionals who give presentations on environmental issues. The club provides members with the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge as well as have fun and make new friends.

Every Friday at 2 pm in room 305 in the W.B. Young Building

Sugar House

The UCONN sugarhouse was funded by the Undergraduate Student Government and was up and running by February 2005.

 
Hours: Every Sunday during February or March from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. (if the sap is running). So call ahead during the week.
 

Syrup is sold at the sugarhouse when we are open.

THE NEW UCONN SUGARHOUSE

Beekeeping

The club maintains 1 beehive on university owned property.  The purpose is to gain knowledge and to give club members the experience to work with honeybees. The bees provide us with pollination and honey.

Apple Cider
Sweet apple cider is made from UCONN harvested apples in the fall on our ciderpress that was funded by U.S.G. in 2004.
