PEP Facilitator Job Description

The facilitator is usually a paid position and may be held by a qualified staff member of the sponsoring organization. The responsibilities and desired qualifications of this person are as follows:

Responsibilities
• Receive training from Extension Educator.
• Plan, conduct, and implement the PEP program.
• Meet with community leaders to promote the PEP program.
• Organize and meet with an advisory committee.
• Conduct an informational meeting in the targeted area.
• Recruit and interview applicants for the program.
• Conduct 10 weeks of training and monthly follow-up educational support meetings.
• Recruit guest speakers for some of the training sessions.
• Help PEP participants in identifying and working on two or more community/individual projects.
• Plan a graduation event for the PEP participants.

Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree in education, social work, family studies or related field is preferred.
• Experience working with adults or teens from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
• Previous experience with volunteer or staff supervision is desired.
• Ideally the facilitator should be inspirational, talented, able to share leadership, and committed to the program.

Time commitment
• Must be able to work 4 - 6 months.
• Minimum of 5 - 7 hours per week.
• In the initial stages of program implementation, additional hours will be required.

Training provided for facilitators
• Special training in the areas of program planning and development and community organization will be provided.
• At least 3-5 monthly technical/support facilitator meetings a year.
