Child Care Safety Checklist (available in English and Spanish) - Free

CPSC knows of at least 56 children who have died in child care settings since 1990. In addition about 31,000 children four years old and younger were treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms for injuries in child care/school settings in 1997.

In a recent national study, CPSC staff visited a number of child care settings and found that two-thirds of them had one or more of eight potentially serious hazards. As a result of this study, CPSC issued the Child Care Safety Checklist in both English and Spanish for parents and child care providers. It’s available by writing to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, OIPA, Washington, DC 20207, or by sending an e-mail to info@cpsc.gov. The checklist is also available on CPSC’s website
