Our mission statement: The mission of the Poultry Genetics Resource
Unit of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources is to house and
care for the special collections of mutant poultry that support the research,
teaching, and public service programs of the College, the Storrs Agricultural
Experiment Station and the University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension
System.
Who We Are Included in our holdings are examples of diplopodia, wingless,
micromelia and other mutations of the appendicular skeleton. We also maintain
stocks of scaleless and Dominant Rumpless. All but the scaleless breed
are maintained in floor pens at our facilities.
Current Holdings We strive to provide the research community with quality resources
in the area of poultry genetics. Through progeny testing we identify those
individuals who are carriers of mutant genes of interest and make the eggs
from those matings available to investigators. This valuable resource can
be used in a variety of fields of study; including embryology, developmental
biology, genetics, physiology and molecular biology.
