The Department of Animal Science continuously reviews its curriculum to ensure that courses offered are relevant for employment in the modern animal-related industries. Undergraduate Animal Science students may enroll in programs leading to a 2-year Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree or a 4-year Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree.
Animal Science students enrolled in the B.S. program may chose to specialize under one of six options. Together with their advisor, students may tailor any of these options to emphasize their specific interest in dairy, poultry, livestock, equine, companion animals, food products or other specialties. Each underlined OPTION will display an EXAMPLE of a typical sequence of courses.
Students in the Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture may emphasize horses, poultry, dairy cattle, livestock or animal products. Those who graduate with a "B" or above may transfer into the B.S. degree program. Students are assigned an academic advisor in the Department to assist in managing their plans of study and related concerns. In consultation with their advisor, students may select the Equine option or the Dairy and Livestock option or a combination of both.
A minor is available only to a matriculated student currently pursuing a baccalaureate degree. While not required for graduation, a minor provides an option for the student who wants an academic focus in addition to a major. Completion of a minor requires that a student earn a grade of C (2.0) grade or better in each of the required courses for that minor.
