ARTICLE I.
The name of this organization shall be known as:

The UConn Pre-Veterinary Club

ARTICLE II. Purposes
Section A.
The objectives of this organization shall be,
To foster high standards of scholarship, leadership, character,
and friendship among its members.
To promote cooperation between students, faculty and members
of the veterinary profession.
To render services to the students, faculty and members of related fields.
To promote the profession of veterinary medicine.

Section B.
In the performance of this purpose, we shall at the same time furnish a means
by which the members may attain the best of academic, cultural,
and professional standards.

ARTICLE III. Membership
Section A.
Membership shall be open to all qualified students of the
University of Connecticut, regardless of race, sex, religion, creed,
color or social standing, preparing for a profession in, or with a
significant interest in, the fields of veterinary medicine.
Section B.
Membership may be cancelled for sufficient reasons.
These reasons are to be established by the Executive Board.
The revoking of membership requires proposal by the Executive Board,
a two-thirds vote of the active members and approval of the faculty advisors.
Reinstatement requires the same procedure.

ARTICLE IV. Officers
Section A.
The officers shall consist of a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer,
and historian elected at large within the club.
Section B.
The term of office for the officers of this club shall extend from the first
Thursday in the month of April of one calendar year until the first Thursday of
April the following calendar year.
Section C.
Notice of a club meeting to elect officers shall be posted at least one week in
advance of the meeting. Any vacancy occurring during the year may be filled
by election at the next regular club meeting.

ARTICLE V. Duties of the officers
Section A.
The duties of the president shall be to preside at all club meetings.
The president may call special meetings and shall appoint the members of all
standing committees. The president shall be a member ex officio of all committees.
It shall be their duty to countersign all disbursements of the treasury.
The president shall be entitled to one vote in the following instance:
election of officers and in the event of a tie vote.
Section B.
The duties of the vice president shall be to assist the president in her/his duties
and in the temporary absence of the president to assume the former's powers
and duties to be relinquished upon the return of the president.
The vice president shall serve as a member ex officio of all committees.
Section C.
It shall be the duties of the secretary to keep complete and accurate minutes of
all club meetings. At all club meetings the secretary shall read the minutes of
the previous meeting. The secretary shall keep an up to date copy of the
constitution and maintain a typewritten list of all officers and committees.
The secretary shall prepare all official correspondence.
Section D.
The treasurer shall keep an accurate and permanent record of all money
received and dispersed, collect dues and assessments and render an account of
finances of the organization at each regular club meeting. The treasurer shall
comply with the budgeting and accounting procedures required by the
University and prepare an annual budget. The treasurer shall also sign all
checks concerning club finances.
Section E.
The duties of the historian will include recording in a journal or scrapbook the
activities of the club, acting as a public representative of the club and serving
as head of the publicity committee.

ARTICLE V. The Executive Board
The Executive Board shall consist of the elected officers. The Executive Board
shall assist the president, help coordinate the work of the club, and consider and
recommend policies to the club. It shall delegate responsibility for actions of the
club which do not fall clearly into defined areas of responsibility of the officers
and, if necessary, create special committees for specific assignments.
It may declare vacant any office wherein an elected member is unable or unwilling
to serve or has left school without resigning their office.

ARTICLE VI. Amendments
Section A.
Amendments to this constitution may be proposed by any member of the club.
Such amendments shall be submitted to the secretary in writing at a regular club meeting.
Section B.
A two-thirds affirmative vote of the attending active club members shall be
sufficient to amend this constitution, providing a quorum is present.

ARTICLE VII. Bylaws
Section A.
The bylaws of this constitution shall include those items necessary to carry out
provisions of this constitution.
Section B.
The bylaws of this constitution shall be proposed in writing at a regular
meeting of the club.

ARTICLE VIII. Enabling clause
Section A.
This constitution shall take effect upon a two-thirds affirmative vote of the
members of the club and approval of the Division of Student Personnel.

BYLAWS

ARTICLE I. Meetings
Section A.
The club shall meet regularly during the academic year.
Special meetings may be called, by the Executive Board,
provided the meeting is advertised by placing posters in conspicuous places
and/or attempting to reach all members by phone.
Section B.
The proceedings at the chapter meetings shall be governed by Robert's Rules
of order unless the said rules are in opposition to the Constitution or Bylaws
of the Club.

ARTICLE II. Dues
Section A.
The amount of dues, if any, shall be decided by a two-thirds affirmative vote
of the attending active club members.

ARTICLE III. Quorum
Section A.
A two-thirds majority of the active members shall constitute a quorum.
