Background
The UConn
Morgan Drill Team has been representing the University of Connecticut
and its equine program since Kathy Pelletier organized it in 1987. A few
years down the road the team proudly changed all drill horses over to
the Morgan breed only. These horses, some UConn born and bred and others
who are donated to the program continually prove themselves on the team
by showing their versatility, intelligence, presence, and their constant
friendship among themselves and humans. Since its
inception, the Drill Team has continually been a part of many CANR events.
Each fall, the UConn Morgan Drill Team is a mainstay in the Block and
Bridle Club's Little International Livestock and Horse Show. The team
is invited to perform demonstrations in this annual event, and does so
with pride. Other annual events the Drill Team has performed in include
the UConn Dairy Show, The Horse Science Symposium, the Sigma Alpha Horse
Show, and Cornucopia Fest (all of these events are open to the public
and Drill Team demonstration details may be found on our Schedule of Events
web page link). The Drill Team not only performs in CANR and Department
of Animal Science events, but other University sponsored events as well.
Each year the UConn Morgan Drill Team makes plans to perform in the University
of Connecticut Homecoming Parade. This is an exciting experience for the
riders as well as the horses. Not only is it an opportunity to participate
in an important University event, but it is a chance to promote the UConn
Drill Team and the entire Equestrian Program. In addition the UConn Morgan
Drill Team has eagerly performed (and is available) as invited guests
off campus for parades and various Morgan Horse Shows. In 1989
the team performed in campus in celebration of the 100 years of women
at UConn. (Luckily that year we had all women on the team) The team also
performed in Old Lyme, CT at the Whipparwill Farm to help promote lyme
disease research and celebrate in the towns Bicentennial parade of the
Morgan horse. Due to the many activities at the UConn horse barn we have 1 1/2 hours per week to develop our demonstrations and introduce new Morgan’s to the team. The UConn Morgan Drill Team is proud of their coach, Kathy for continuing to volunteer her time and energy to train and support the team. We are honored to represent the University of Connecticut’s Morgan breeding program. Thank you for your encouragement and constant support. We hope you enjoy our website. |

Message from the CoachI feel I have developed, coached and continue to create the most unique Drill Team on the East coast. At every event our patterns, music, and costumes are different adding to the day’s event. After many years I still feel very fortunate to be able to continue with this extraordinary team and to always be able to work with the students at the horse barn in both capacities as their coach and as the Assistant farm Manager.
